CASARENA, meaning "House of Sand", is a premium wine project part of DARTLEY FAMILY WINES in Argentina. This antique winery was built in 1937 and named after its earth-toned stucco exterior and shape of its building, same as old houses were built at that time. The winery and vineyards are located in Lujan de Cuyo D.O.C., considered the first and oldest wine region in Argentina. In 2007, during their first trip to Mendoza, Peter & Karen Dartley felt in love of the region, because of its unique landscape, at the foothills of the Andes Mountains, and after realizing the huge potential for wine production in Argentina. That same year, they decided to invest in this century old family winery and rebuild it with the latest Italian and French technology, with the main goal to only produce high quality wines. With Michel Rolland as winemaking consultant at that time, they also decided to invest in 4 exclusive vineyards located in Lujan de Cuyo D.O.C., in order to preserve the unique cuttings & heritage of Malbec grapes grown in this historical area, and to become one of the top premium wine producers in Argentina.
