The Domaine La Solitude stretches over 37 hectares in A.O.C Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The Domaine begins on "La Crau", high terraces of the Rhône and then descends into the Valley of la Solitude. Shaped by the sun of Provence and the strength of the Mistral, it is a patchwork of terroirs ranging from sandy soils (safres) to clay and pebbles ( galets roulés). The vineyard, managed in organic agriculture is planted with massales selections. The vines bear the history of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the thirteen grape varieties are cultivated there. The main grape varieties for red wines are Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and for white wines Clairette, Roussanne, Grenache blanc. The story La Solitude belongs to one of the oldest families of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Their history goes back to the XV century. In the 17th century, Hélène, descendant of the illustrious Italian family Barberini, married Claude Martin, owner of a vineyard in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Their grandson, in the XVIII century, Paul-Clair-Agapet Martin gives a phenomenal breakthrough to the property and allowed the property to flourish. Forward-thinker, he created the first label in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The "vin de la Solitude" becomes a sign of quality, and is already exported. A great terroir is affirmed Six generations later, Michel and Jean Lançon manage the vineyard and Florent, Michel's son, under the benevolent eye of the family, takes the leadership of the Domaine.
